IDIA RENAISSANCE FEMALE GOLD CUP SOCCER TOURNAMENT
Sporting activities the world over, especially soccer, has become a veritable tool for development at the local, national and international arena through which bonds of friendship, love and unity have been struck and consolidated amongst people from different backgrounds, tribes, religion and political affiliations. The game in Nigeria like in other countries in the world commands the largest followership and evokes the greatest love and passion compared with any other sporting event. The game has also become very fulfilling and rewarding for the players.

This female soccer competition is geared towards promoting female soccer in Edo State and ensures that Edo girls continue to excel in the game at the national and international level. This is in line with our belief that it is better to teach young people how to fish rather than just throwing fish to them.
It is interesting to note that the previous editions of the Idia Renaissance female football tournament has produced five players for the Nigerian national team, the Super Falcons, and participated in the last 3 world cups for the under 17, 20 and the senior team and over 30 others playing for big teams in Nigeria and Europe. These young girls who now earn decent living and the many more emerging from new edition of the tournament is an encouragement to Idia Renaissance that human trafficking will certainly not be an option for them.

After the 4th edition in 2006, there was clamour for a revival of the all important soccer fiesta (the Idia Renaissance Gold Cup Tournament) by local female soccer clubs across the 18 L.G.As of Edo State and others in some States of the federation which demonstrates the determination of our young girls to fly high in the game
